After finding out that there was “roadworks” on the Grand Canal and the water bus could not take us to the car park, we had to walk across all of Venice with our luggage to get to the car. It was fairly early in the morning so the onslaught of the tourists hadn’t started yet so at least it was easy to move around. We are very grateful our suitcases have wheels, but there are many bridges with stairs to cross, so Philip got some exercise carrying the luggage over canals.
We got to Croatia, to an island called Krk, to the place Krk, around midday. We stayed with a an old family friend of my family who lives there. After a short catch up with them, we walked through the old town before going for a swim in the beautiful Adriatic. The water was like a swimming pool, calm and warm. It is very salty so you can float really easily. One of the best things about Croatian towns is that you can often swim while having an amazing view of an old town right next to the beach. It was fantastic. We ate by the water that night and strolled though town until we found a bar situated on the rocks by the water so we drank there. That was pretty special.
